Frequently Asked Questions
Individualized support tailored for NICU families and their unique needs from a former NICU mom and nurse.
Why are NICU doulas important?
The NICU experience is filled with unknowns, delayed bonding, and emotional highs and lows. It can feel isolating, overwhelming, and out of your control. I have been there, I get it and am here to support you to hopefully give you the knowledge and support to make this chapter a little less overwhelming.
When should I contact Beside You NICU support?
This depends on the support you are hoping for. If you want check-ins during your NICU stay, feel free to reach out as soon as your little one is admitted to the NICU. If you know the NICU is going to be part of your journey antepartum, feel free to reach out any time during your pregnancy. If you want support in the transition to home, reach out when you are getting close to going home. Or if you want the consultation for organizational / problem solving, this could be anywhere along your journey. We are here to work with you as a family in whatever way feels right to you.
Do you offer in person support?
If you live the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area this is a possibility! Reach out with what you are hoping for in person.
Is support available 24/7?
We offer flexible hours to meet your family's unique schedule between the hours of 7am -5pm daily. I do my best to respond as soon as possible, however I do still work as a NP and have a toddler at home, so there are times where I will not be available immediately, and will respond to all messages and texts within 72 hours.
How do I get started with your services?
Simply reach out via email, and I'll guide you through the next steps.
You are a nurse practitioner, so will you be my provider?
While I do hold both a RN and NP license for Minnesota and actively practice as a Family Practice provider, I will not be functioning in this role while I am your NICU doula. You should still have your own pediatrician / family practice provider who you reach out to for medical questions. I am, however, happy to help you navigate the often complicated healthcare system; providing resources on how to "speak provider", advocate more confidently for your child, and make you feel more comfortable in your new NICU parent role.
